THE AUTHOR
From early childhood Murti was influenced by visual and classic story telling in all its forms. Today he loves novels, illustrated books, graphic novels and film in equal measure, but it is comics that he acknowledges as the most formative and lasting influence on his creative life. He grew up nurtured by the visionary power of the comic book, realising that images and words, working together, were a very special form of magic.
Ideas, and the power they could wield, fascinated him. Some ideas excited him more than others but in his mind there were no bad ideas, only the challenge of finding imaginative ways to make them work.
With a childhood primed by such rich inspirational beginnings he found employment in adult life as an illustrator, teacher, writer and as a concepts developer in film, TV and computer games. He animated giants' slobber in The BFG feature film and special FX in the TV series Duckula. Getting the gig writing Tomb Raider - Angel Of Darkness gave him scope to unleash some of his personal themes on a grand scale.
The Shadow Histories is his most ambitious project to date and has taken six years of planning and careful nurturing - so far. Quotes from a recent interview explain the title chosen for the series:
"A shadow history can be understood as a reinterpretation of known history by the use of suppressed or previously undiscovered data. It is similar to archaeology uncovering what once existed and deciding on a story to explain your findings.
"Any reinterpretation of historical 'truths' is challenging, and will only be truly understood by those with open and receptive minds - young minds - it doesnt really matter what ones physical age is".
